This archive record concerns the political upheaval surrounding Mir Hashem Awazi (Mir Hashem of Evaz) during the early reign of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar and its consequences for the inhabitants of Evaz in southern Fars, and Mir Hashem himself that ended in a brutal execution by the Qajars. Mir Hashem succeeded his brother, Amir Mohammad Reza, in the government of Evaz. Amir Mohammad Reza was identified as the son of Amir Abd al-Wahid ibn Mir Hossein Haji Amir, providing a partial genealogy for the ruling house of Evaz. Mir Hashem subsequently developed political influence beyond Evaz, including appointment as deputy governor of Lar and authority over neighboring districts. Following changes in the political administration of Fars, Mir Hashem resisted the authority of the provincial government and became involved in a wider local rebellion. Government military forces were eventually deployed against him and his allies. Mir Hashem surrendered after receiving assurances of safety but was subsequently executed at Furg in 1268 AH (1851-1852). The historical account states that his body was divided into four parts and distributed to officials. The study records we examined show that a portion of the inhabitants of Evaz left the town with their families and property and settled in Jahangiriyeh. It further states that many of those who migrated toward Bastak were merchants. Following the suppression of the rebellion, Mir Abd al-Hadi, the kadkhoda of Evaz (i.e., head of the household/ruler/authority figure), appealed to Firuz Mirza, Governor of Fars, concerning the dispersed population. An official order recorded that inhabitants of Evaz had settled in Bastak, Vanuh and Janah, and arrangements were made for their return to Evaz. Some chose not to return, either because they were satisfied with their new circumstances in Bastak, where they continued their economic activities, or because of memories of earlier insecurity. The brutal manner in which Mir Hashem was executed by the Qajaris suggests the latter as the main reason for them not returning.
