A squadron of “Ferret” armored vehicles participated in the visit, and their performance was compared with that of long-wheelbase “Land Rover” vehicles and “Dodge Power Wagon” vehicles. Precise measurements were also taken of vehicle weight, soil resistance, the steepness of sand dunes, and the impact of temperature and humidity on the equipment. The tests included evaluating various types of desert tires for their endurance over long distances and their performance on diverse terrain such as salt flats, gravel plains, valleys, and high sand dunes, which reached 600 feet in some areas. Soil samples were collected and analyzed, and aerial photographs were taken by the Royal Air Force (RAF). Field coordination was carried out with the “Omani Coastal Scouts” and their leaders, in addition to representatives from the Middle East Command, the British Royal Armored Corps’ 4th Brigade, and technical officials from the civilian sector, such as Zambi Contracting Company in Sharjah. A number of local figures were also observed participating, including Abdul Ghafoor Al-Awadi and Abdullah Al-Awadi, as well as local contractors such as “Khan Saab,” which specializes in transportation and logistical support services. The report provided technical recommendations regarding the development and improvement of desert tires and suggested conducting more extensive trials in the future that would cover a broader range of equipment and vehicles.
